The next day began with our surprise class
assembly; actually it was our principal mam’s initiative to improve the
confidence and cooperation between students and peers. For a moment I was like
astound with only one thought in my mind at that moment ‘WTF’. The assembly was
scheduled at 0810 hours and the current time was 7050 hours that meant we only
had about 20 minutes to prepare for it. I rapidly recovered from the shock and
prepared my part which was to conduct the whole assembly, Mansi picked up an
article from our English writing section of the bbc book, Dj was going to sing
a Bengali prayer though he was a rajasthani himself(now that’s what I call pure
talent). While Shivani was learning the thought of the day we were all busy
forcing Abhi to read out the news in the doordarshan manner. Amongst all this
Priya was peacefully writing a poem that she was going to recite, her own poem
gosh!!! She is a poet too…… at every single point why does she have to compete
with me; academics, co-curricula’s, literature, sports I mean I am feeling like
as if she is a female version of me and that is way, way freaky. Alright now
getting back to the assembly thing, it was a real classic and to be honest
actually her poem was a kind of masterstroke. Now only she was visible to
everyone, and none else in our group was bothered about it, as if they were hypnotized.
I got frustrated and out of anger I said, not bad Priya but you could have done
better and trust me guys everybody had made up their faces as if I had said the
worst thing ever anyone can say. She nicely replied, oh Mahen, English is not
just your mate, I have it in my pocket too, and yes she did have an oxford
pocket dictionary in her pocket. By the way her answer shut my mouth
immediately. I said to myself, oh Mahen just jump off some cliff or jump into
some well cause no one talks to you like that just then she gave me a confident
look as if she was trying to say, everything has its first time in everybody’s
life and you better get used to it cause I am here buddy!! Abhi consoled me,
let her have her credit brother, she is just a new knight, but man remember you
are the king Arthur forever and actually as a matter of fact he was totally
right.
I am thee, I am ‘King Arthur’ and she is just a
knight of my army, no match to my faction and neither to my rank or status and
that is why she is not at all acceptable to me though she might have gotten
into our pack of wolves. As days passed we were turning into rivals and
then archenemies, fighting with each other on petty and baseless issues,
sometimes she picked the fight and sometimes it was me. Hmmm…….. like about 50
no.. no.. to be honest it was 40% her fault and 60% mine. To be frank our group
was sick of our fights and decided to avoid both of us they tried it for
several days, then they began ignoring us when even that failed. They finally
took up the idea of talking to Kavita mam in order stop our childishness. The
main issue was that we both were equally good in all things but I enjoyed more
privileges than her I hated it when people wanted her to be part of almost all
the jobs that I am doing, I hate sharing my credits and successes with her.
Kavita mam after hearing all this, when she came to the class said, this is the
last week before your summers, so correct yourself both of you, because after
the summer break if you both are again caught fighting then I’m going to give
you nice little surprises. And trust me folks, when she speaks so nicely about
surprises, you better act accordingly because if I were you I would never whish
for her surprises, trust me it can be very risky and dangerous. Although I was
aware about this danger so I was least bothered and kept on fighting till the
last day. Now, on the last day we had a small class party and then the school
had arranged for a 2 day overnight camp stay camping kind of event in the
school itself, starting 6 p.m. onwards.
